Dr Raymond Mullins

Dr Raymond Mullins is an Australian consultant physician practicing in the specialty of allergic disease. He works in private practice in Canberra, Australia.

Dr Mullins graduated from the University of Sydney in 1982, and trained in clinical immunology and allergy at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. He was admitted to Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 1989. He completed a PhD in the immunology of tuberculosis and leprosy of at the Centenary Institute for Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology in Sydney in 1991. He was appointed staff specialist in Clinical Immunology at the Royal Newcastle Hospital in the same year. In 1992 he was granted a Neil Hamilton Fairley NHMRC Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship which was undertaken at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology & Charing Cross Hospital in London, studying autoimmune thyroid disease. He returned to Sydney in 1994. He has worked in private practice in Canberra since 1995  at John James Medical Centre in Deakin, Canberra.

Clinical interests include the management of asthma and hay fever, anaphylaxis, allergic reactions to food, medication and insect stings, and sinus disease. He has studied and published on the epidemiology of food allergy and anaphylaxis in Australia, tracking increasing incidence over the last 20 years.

He has filled various committee roles in the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) including as Newsletter Editor, Chair of the Clinical and Laboratory Practice Committee, Chair of the Education Committee 2000-2006 charged with developing patient educational material for the ASCIA web site, as President Elect 2007-8, as President 2008-2010 and Immediate Past President 2010-2012. He chaired ASCIA’s Anaphylaxis Committee (2013 to 2015), serves on other ASCIA committees and chaired the Board of the Allergy and Immunology Foundation of Australasia (AIFA 2014-2016), established to promote research into immune and allergic diseases in Australasia.

He serves on the medical advisory board for Anaphylaxis Australia (previously known as FACTS), was series co-editor for the Medical Journal of Australia "Allergy Update" series published 2006 and co-authored the Access Economics-ASCIA Report on the Economics Cost of Allergic Disease in Australia in 2007. He serves as an external peer reviewer for a number of Australian and international medical publications. A summary of his own publications is listed below.
